Google ate my hamster
They didn't, of course. But as I logged into Blogger, they offered me a free trial of the new Google email service, Gmail. Of course I signed up, and will be lording it over all my geeky mates immediately. I, along with everyone else, thought it was a lazy April Fool joke when they announced it, but the joke's on us - it's real, and it's pretty cool, going by my quick, early impressions. Some people are concerned about privacy - a computer scans your emails for keywords and sticks in (very unobtrusive) ads at the side, just like a computer scans your searches to give you Google ads. But if you're that worried, you don't have to sign up for it. I like the look of it so far. More later when I've had a play with it.
