Off to the Story Engine

Right, am off to the Story Engine tonight with Jo, will be back on Friday. If you're there, come and say hello, otherwise I'll find you and destroy you. Really looking forward to it. Also, Mr Arnopp and Mr Turner will be there, so I imagine we'll all have a sherry shandy or three.

I'll try to Twitter as much as I can, so keep an eye out there. I'm up to 466 followers, and when we get to 500, we're having a Hoff Frenzy - I'll direct you all to a Hoff music video, which we must all watch to celebrate the event. I don't know why. Just do as I say. Do not question me, or The Hoff. Oh, he was on our plane back from L.A., that's probably why I thought of him - he's very tall, and seemed very nice too. Annie Lennox was on the flight too, and our bags came out before either of theirs did, which means we are more famous. Probably.

The Story Engine, and the Stack Attack

I am still jetlagged, and starting to lose what little is left of my mind. About 2 hours sleep last night, followed by several hours lying wide awake, feeling like my eyes were wide open even though they were closed, my mind racing and trying to convince me that getting up and doing loads of stuff would be the most brilliant thing EVER. I am so, so tired. Yesterday, I had a normal night's sleep, and thought that was the end of it. But no. Jetlag has more fun in store for me, I think. And I have many meetings this week, which I have to be on form for, as well as...

...The Story Engine! Yes, a new paragraph and everything. I'm sure you all know about it by now, but just in case, it's a screenwriting conference in Darlington, on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th February, at which I am a guest speaker. On Thursday, I'll be taking part in the networking lunch, doing a live commentary and Q+A on my first Torchwood episode Sleeper (please try and see it if you haven't already, otherwise you won't know what's going on when I start talking over it), and then joining in the panel on agents. Friday morning, I'm in the speed pitching workshop, which might end up even more manic depending on the jetlag situation. The full programme is up here, and you can download the PDF from that page too.

And I should have mentioned this before, but what with being away and going jetlagmad, I'm late (as usual). Sir Daniel of Stackshire is making a short film. If you want to get in on that action - and the power of Christ COMPELS you to - then go and check out his post here about it. You know Danny, you know what he does, and you know he's a diamond geezer. So help him if you can, and if you can't afford to donate, cheer him on and be supportive. You know it makes sense.

He is returning...

...or rather, he has returned. I'm back, you filthy heathens, so stop what you are doing IMMEDIATELY and pay me the appropriate respect.

I'm utterly exhausted, jetlagged, and trying to keep my eyes open until bedtime so I can jump back into UK time. I've had the most amazing holiday, topped off by a superb Gallifrey weekend. Met so many lovely people, ate so much food, drank so much booze, and talked so much nonsense. I also did various sex things with a man, but I refuse to name him (but his initials are Simon Guerrier, and he started it, okay I started it, but he was totally into it).

I'll do a full report of everything soon. So, probably January 2010. No, I'll do it sooner, in the next week or so, I just need to sleep first. Entertain yourselves for a while, and pretend I said lots of clever, cool stuff.

Torchwood: Children of Earth trailer

Just popping in to say that the Torchwood: Children of Earth trailer is now up.

If you're in the UK, go here.

If you're in the US, go here (which should work anywhere in the world) or here.

Explosions! Creepy stuff! Shenanigans! Running! Snogging! Gore! Swearing! Eve Myles leaping through the air firing two guns! WHAT MORE COULD YOU POSSIBLY WANT??

That is all for now, I'm carrying on with my holiday, nothing more to see here, move along...

Holiday and Cake Frenzy

Well slap my rump and call me a Spaniard, it's February already! And thank fuck for that, because January was pretty shite as far as I'm concerned. On the bright side, I got a writing job I really, really wanted - I fought for it, and got it, and it's going to be fantastic. It should be an interesting year, with the stuff I have lined up, and I'm looking forward to it. Also looking forward to slowing things down a bit, so I don't go insane again. Also also looking forward (hey kids! I'm a writer! look how I make the English language dance!) to a proper holiday.

Yes, assuming there are any flights from Heathrow due to the sudden heavy snow, we're off to Los Angeles tomorrow, staying in Santa Monica again, because it's lovely. We've got lots of cool stuff planned, and will then be at Gallifrey from the 13th to the 15th February. If you're at Gallifrey, come and say hello, and if you read the blog, let me know. It's always good to meet people who read this nonsense, so that I know you're all real.

Probably won't be blogging while I'm on holiday, but may send in the odd hello or pic, and will try to keep Twittering away. I'll have data roaming switched OFF, so that I don't get gang-shafted by the phone networks, but should have plenty of access to Wifi, which means I can still pop in occasionally. Or there may just be a deathly silence for 2 weeks solid. Don't be surprised if that happens. Or I could be back here immediately, due to being unable to find the airport under a huge snowdrift. Or just sending lots of angry Tweets from the airport. So many possibilities! Isn't life exciting??

Speaking of Twitter, I recently reached 200 followers, and we celebrated by having a Cake Frenzy. Everyone was asked to eat some cake, or biscuits, or something, and post photographic evidence. I think you can see them if you look on my Twitter stream, but if not, here's a summary: there was a lot of cake. Thank you all for following, and pretending to be interested in the ramblings of a madman. I recently Twittered some pics of the snow in my street and garden, which are here, here, and here. It's been strange seeing the effect on the country of the heaviest snowfall for 18 years. Strange, and quite scary. We were going to head into the city to pick up some things, but travel was out of the question. So we decided to order a pizza. I phoned up the local Domino's, but they said "sorry, we're not delivering today." Not... delivering... pizza...? OMG IT'S LIKE TEH FUCKING ROAD WARRIOR OR SOMETHING

Anyway, don't forget, if you're at the New York Comic Con on February 5th, Eve Myles and Euros Lyn will be there, and they're showing a preview trailer of Torchwood: Children Of Earth. I believe the trailer will be shown on the BBC, and BBC America websites too. No, I have no idea what will be in the trailer, or when the series will be shown, or what colour underpants the cast all wear. I *do* know, however, that series 3 is going to kick your ass and take your name, so watch out for that.

In the meantime, try and play nice with the other kids, and we'll talk when I get back. And don't pick that, it'll bleed.
